Taj Mahal – The beauty of India

22 years in the making, almost 30 kinds of precious stones, 20,000 craftsmen, white marble and an emotion called Love! These are some of the ingredients that have produced a monument unparalleled in the history of mankind – Taj Mahal... The jewel of India. There is hardly any Indian or a travel enthusiastic foreigner who hasn’t heard of this marble mausoleum located in Agra, the erstwhile capital of the Mughals.
The tomb of Arjumand Bano Begam or Mumtaz Mahal (as she is popularly known) was envisaged as the grandest monument showcasing the Mughal architectural prowess by a grief-stricken husband who also happened to be the ruler of Hindostan. With this tomb, he wanted to surpass all other buildings constructed so far, as a gift for his beloved wife and his most loyal companion. Mumtaz Mahal was said to have a pearly white complexion, eyes shaped like almonds and lips of the colour of the rose. This is perhaps the reason why the Taj Mahal in Agra was constructed in white marble – to match the beauty of the deceased queen. It was studded with a variety of semi-precious jewels brought in from all across the Indian sub-continent; it seemed Shah Jahan would have plucked even the stars from the sky if he could, in order to adorn this masterpiece.

Located at a short distance from Delhi, a visit to Agra and the Taj is on high priority for foreign tourists. One can easily travel to Agra from and back to Delhi in the same day. In fact, visitors can easily combine Delhi sightseeing places and visit to Taj Mahal in a single trip. The Taj Mahal sees a footfall of over 4 million visitors annually and is one of the most visited monuments in India. Agra forms a part of the Golden Triangle tour along with Delhi and Jaipur and the Taj Mahal is the numero uno destination for many.
With such passion was this monument constructed that a visit to it fills you with emotions of many a kind. One can almost feel Shah Jahan’s anguish, sorrow and longing for his consort, his wife, Mumtaz. This poetic ode in marble also features in the new 7 wonders of the world and is a highly cherished symbol of India.

Travel getaways in rural India

Even today almost 70% of India’s population lives in its villages and with the exception of a one odd movie like ‘Swades’ or ‘Peepli Live’ one hardly gets to catch a glimpse of what an authentic rural life in India is like. The average urban Indian is clueless about the ways of a villager and a short trip to the rural hinterland can be very informative for those looking to do something offbeat.

Holy places to visit in India

Did you know that India is also known as Bharat Ganrajya and that four of the world’s greatest religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism have sprouted from this land? When a country that has a history that goes back to the Stone Age, is home to an extraordinary existence of numerous faiths within close quarters of each other, there is one thing that cannot be in shortage – Holy Places to visit. Thanks to the melting pot that India was (and probably will continue to be), it embraced every religion, sect and creed, letting them gain believers and finding roots in this populous land.

End-to-end Travel Solutions for Corporate and Retail Clients

The McCallister family left their 8 year old son behind in the 1990 blockbuster Home Alone. They were in a tearing hurry to get to the airport for their Parisian vacation and in the process forgot the youngest member of the family. All their dreams of an international holiday and sightseeing came crashing down when the obvious was discovered. Well that was a movie but surely you wouldn't want to upset your trip with a blunder such as this. Last minute sprints and incomplete chores results in nothing but a huge mess, something you can easily avoid.

Special Fares for Students Tours

Student life is often characterized by struggle, lack of finances, trials and hardships. Travel is typically undertaken on a shoestring budget with bare minimum expenses. College goers generally organize student group tours and are always on the lookout for budget travel. They generally pool in resources and greatly value any discounts on offer.

Keeping this in mind, buses and trains have maintained special student fares in order to facilitate their journeys – long or short. At most places they get considerable discounts in the name of student fares and since we all have gone through this stage in life, many travel agents offer student travel deals and cheap airline tickets to the energetic lot. Whether it is empathy or simply a helpful gesture that is the driving force behind these schemes is anyone's guess.

Off Beat Destinations of India

We all would agree that a well travelled person makes for an interesting company and if the places which he/she has been to are obscure yet exotic, it automatically makes their profile special. A popular destination would ensure the availability of several tourist friendly services and seasoned local populace but the real thrill lies in treading the path less traveled.

India boasts of plenty of quaint hamlets that qualify for an offbeat destination, places that can be interesting for the discerning traveler, one who wishes to beat the regular and look for the marginalized yet arresting locations.
